Is there a size of rectangular tubing that fits in the channel without a gap?

    thanks!

2x4? I used 2x3 and it fit the frame horns.

There are places locally here that can make any channel you need as long as it is no deeper than it is wide.

Otherwise it may be danstew's cut'n'weld express

I originally stretched mine with some scrap "other" frame, fishplate and strap top and bottom. Its just about as easy to make a whole new frame outta 2x4x3/16. Makes it super easy to add wrangler springs or whatever you like.

  5. i would do this. it would be a lot more solid, and hve more options that could be built in.

I am on the fence to do it that way. It will depend on what my frame condition will be once i tear it apart. After doing the frame for my rover our of 2x5 tubing, it is not that hard, but if the frame is good still it will will help me out by having the body mounting positions already done :)

I have nothing useful to add, but there was a dirt everyday episode that just went over stretching a YJ frame for Fred's red wagon.

Dave is a pretty accomplished fabricator - i was impressed.

How is that running and driving?

It runs and drives great. it sort of has been neglected a bit, but i try to get it out on weekends. i had it up to 70mph no problem on the interstate last month. I am going to swap motors when put a gasket kit in another 4.3 i got. the one in it is extremely high miles and leaking oil good.

I am a fan of the complete frame build. If you tie in the rigid box section to the light open channel, even with fishmouth transitions, it runs the risk of cracking, in my opinion. I go completely overboard on frames though, because I realize that I am like a gorilla with things and I don't have any finesse, so I would take my advice with a grain of salt. After seeing your other work, I am sure you will pick the right balance and have a great build for us to watch.

    I forgot the 2a had a lighter frame than a 5.
With frame building experience that is the way to go.
