Another Dumb Question.

    red61cj5 Just fell off the turnip truck!

    I've got a bunch of Classic Enterprise parts out in the shop and hope to be welding soon. While looking things over yesterday I realized I do not know which way the bed orients. The old one was a piece of sheet metal, so no help there. One end has an area in the middle which is not ribbed, the same end has 2 brackets welded to the underside bracing, I don't know what they are for. Is this end the front or the rear? By the way, I am very impressed with CE parts, and their customer service. Just outstanding, IMO.

    The non-ribbed area is for the machine-gun mount and goes towards the front.

    The brackets, I dunno, but maybe for a heat shield over the muffler, depending on your model.

    No machine gun on my '66, but the inner seat belts are bolted in the blank area.

    Picture of underside bracket? Maybe the parking brake cable mount.

    I have a bunch of pictures here of the floors in my CJ-6. Index of /~reese/FloorPics This will be the same as a CJ-5, except for the 20" section added to the floors between the front seats and the wheel houses.

    The machine gun mount comes with the M38A1 frame. Civilian frames don't have it. Apparently this flat area is a vestigial feature from the CJ's military roots.

    Flat area forward, brackets? There should be two large square washers with nuts welded on. These are seat belt anchors

    Look at my build thread - It will show you exactly how they go in. I used Classic Ent Parts for all the metal replacement sans the clean sheets in the front floor.

    So I have to bend the front lip of the bed straight out to overlap the riser? Didnt know. But that explains why the bed seemed little long when I was measuring.
    Edit: Or do I cut a notch the thickness of the riser panel? Out of the side lips?

    You do not cut anything on the floor they supply... as to the 'front' into the driver compartment, Post 14 shows examples of how it's oriented. Click the pics to get a blow up of the picture.

    The front lips over the front of the riser, and the back lips down to attach along the rear flange. I replaced the riser as well, but it was placed based on the old one as I did the rear before the front floors.
