Painting Oil Pan Help

    I know this is more of a generic question but ....

    I can’t pull the motor now but am cleaning Oil pan and replacing leaking gasket.

    I want to paint it but wondering do I need to use high temp paint like a 500 degree or will normal quality rattle can hold up?

    I would read the max. temp. rating on the normal paint and then compare it with engine paint ratings. Engine paint would probably be the best choice for holding up for a good while.

    I painted my 76 ford 390 pan with normal paint and it held up for years fwiw

    I'd go with "industrial" Rustoleum spray can.

    I know oil gets hot but not sure it would ever get to anything near 500 degrees.

    Your pan probably never sees 250 degrees. Most any rattle can paint would work, but "engine" paint holds up to better to fluids around an engine, like gasoline. A fuel line leak of flooded carb can dribble gas down to the pan.
