I'd think that might be too much as well. Others here will know better.
It's one thing to correct but I'm pretty sure that isn't the whole/main problem.

Well after I install a new bushing everything will be new. clutch plate, pilot bushing, novak hydraulic clutch, fork, and will put everything to torque specs. So hope it will fix the problem. Just need to get pilot bushing out. Tried grease and bolt tapping it in, no go.... may have to find a puller..

White bread and close fitting dowel. Keep packing it in and beating it

Just had this issue recently, V6 Pilot Bushing Removal? . I also like the idea of using a tap to cut threads. When the tap bottoms out it pulls the bushing out as you continue to turn the tap.

Was never able to get a puller in there... The two methods I find work best are the grease with smooth snug shaft and threaded. The grease compresses more than you think and there is a hollow area behind the bearing most of the time. The second if that is too tough is thread the inside of the bearing and once its through, replace with bolt. Made the mistake keeping the tap and the bottom end on mine started cutting into the crank.

fill it with grease all the way, or any liquid really as long as it stays in the hole and does not ooze out. This is the concept of non-compressibility of a fluid, the basis of hydraulics. Get a very close fitting piece of round steel and big hammer. The round steel stock should only go in 1/4 inch if you packed it full of grease, bread or poop. Put your safety glasses on and whack it with a hammer. It will start to come out. Put more grease in and continue until its out. Stop playing with it. Add vulgar comment about grease and holes and whatever.

So far I packed it with grease and kept packing, smacking, packing smacking for over an hr. Not one budge. So I cleaned it up as much as possible. Then began with ole wonder bread. Crazy enough I packed and smacked the entire large loaf in there. No budge. Borrowed a tool from a god friend. The one with a slide hammer got two of the pieces to fit one snug other expanded all the way. Hammered at it for 20 plus min. Until the adapter slid out. So I decided to feel inside of it.. there is nothing to bite on the back side of the bushing.. it’s either wore down so much or something isn’t right.. next option is try one more loaf of bread before I slowly cut it out

When I did mine a few weeks back I was using my big 1/2” drill an a 5/8 bit. After just a few seconds the bit snagged the brass and ripped it out. Good luck.

Thought about that. I don’t have a 3/4 bit since the hole is .75 measured. Compared to my .63 input shaft. The carriage bolt I ground down is just small enough to fit inside the bushing. So I thought that would work. And I hit it hard enough that when the grease or bread came out it hit me in the face. Going to try bread again, but this baby is in there, probably since 62.

I may try tapping the bushing and hope it slowly comes out. I just feel as though if I bottom it out it may create extra pressure on the crank and possibly crack the backside. I read people that tried using grease and when it bottomed out and they hit it again it cracked the backside. Is this something to be aware of? Or should I just try using a small cutting device and cut pieces away. I need to find a large tapping tool as well.

After two weeks of beating, 1 loaf and and 3 slices, finally. Looks a little wore out.. you think compared to new pilot bushing. 7787A25E-29D9-4A23-B046-BD552327B580.jpeg

Best answer is "Ya - not supposed to look like that... bet it was a real booger to get out". Said in my Dad's voice in the back of my mind

Great to get it out, but... that is not what was keeping you from having the clutch working.

Well I’m hoping to get that new one in put the alignment tool in and install the clutch plate and pressure plate back on to torque spec. Think about 30lb/ft. Everything will be new, I feel as though I have enough throw in the fork from Novak and minimum play with clutch. As I thought I had before. I’m hoping it will engage the clutch and disengage it as well to move the beast. @Buildflycrash, If you have the answer to why it wasn’t working please enlighten me. Getting old pulling this Transmission and TC.

What could be the issue? I have plenty of fork movement with extended pivot ball, fork is all the way on TO bearing correctly and it moves, my pedal is just about 6:1 ratio. Clutch plate is on right way even says “towards flywheel” on one side.

You should also verify the clutch disk isn't botoming out on the transmission splines when assembled. That can force the disk against the flywheel. I can't think of much else myself.

If you've got both the engine/transmission out, you can assemble them out of the jeep and see if you can release the clutch with a ratchet strap. It'd be nice to know if it's working or not before you put it back in the Jeep.

With that wore out pilot bushing I'd be checking the bellhousing index

With a bit of math, assemble everything on a bench including the bell housing (or floor ;) ) and test the movement and clearance. I too have had to trim the stick out on the front bearing retainer to make sure things cleared. It wasn't much.

I will still stand by my earlier thought on the torque spec for the clutch - that was my issue the last time I had exactly what you described.
