Oil Pressure Gauge Question.

I have a mechanical oil pressure gauge at the moment. Been there since I got this Jeep. Noticed after my water pump and radiator change that the pressure is low.. Thinkin I kinked the line when I was re-installing the alternator. I hate that I have a small oil line leaking under the dash. seems I am always fixing it. So I now am thinking that an electric sender with an analog gauge setup is the way to go. Now I need some guidance as to what to buy. I know I'll need a sending unit and a gauge. But can't find a kit so to speak that has what goes with what in it..
Any suggestions or reccomendations are welcome.

I don't imagine a low reading would result from a kinked line.

The gauge does not depend upon any flow, and after a minute the static pressure would either be there, or not. High-pressure gauges on scuba equipment in fact have a very restrictive orifice to reduce any potential outflow if the gauge fails.

 

I have used Autometer Electric Oil Pressure Gauges have not had the best of Luck .

I now use A Autometer Mechanical Oil pressure Gauge and it works great .

Electric showed My Oil Pressure was always low.

 

I went with electrical VDO gauges in my current build. The base models are cheap, and I figure if VDO was good enough from the factory in the car that my engine came out of, they’ll be just fine. No complaints so far.

As far as compatibility between the gauge and the sender, I found that (with VDO at least) all their gauges use the same senders, so no need to match ohm ratings if buying the pair from the same manufacturer.

 

Further investigation may be necessary

 

I liked my Stewart-Warner mechanical gauge in my '73 CJ-5 better than I like my current AutoMeter gauge. Both are full-sweep mechanical, but the AutoMeter has a red needle that matches the Jeep gauges. It has been many years since the '73 ... I may change to a modern Stewart-Warner and compare.

Agree with Pete that I can't see how a leak or kink will affect performance of the gauge. Look up bourdan tube.

 

Well it's fixed. Replaced the gauge with a new one.
