Since I i’ve had this pulley off for a long time I don’t remember the order. Does the spacer go on the block side of the pool or on the inside/bolt side of the pulley?

    thank you!

To me it looks like there were bolts with lock washers against the pulley and the spacer was behind.
Thats Just reading the rust and markings.

Also looks like it's a quart low and a turn signal is out.

The spacer is not really a spacer. It goes inside the pulley and distribute the load across the pulley face. In other words the bolts go through the flat plate then Through the pulley into the harmonic balancer.

That ring acts like a big washer. It goes on just under the bolts retaining the pulley. Install the pulley, then the ring, and then bolt it up.

If you install it with out that ring behind the pulley, the alignment of the pulley will be off from the water pump. Just FYI

So you think it goes behind the pulley?

that's where I put mine. I ran into the same issue when I rebuilt my motor. I put the washer in the front at first then I went to put belts on I was an Eighth of an inch off just enough to cause an alignment issue. So I put it behind the pulley and it all lined up correctly. JW60 is right there is a reason you have washer marks on the pulley itself. Hope that helps.

Then you have the wrong water pump pulley, crank pulley, or something else is off. There are many versions and some aren’t off much, just enough. Every Buick V-6 and V-8 I’ve worked on that had that ring, the ring went inside the pulley to distribute the load to prevent the crank pulley from flexing and cracking. You put it on behind the pulley it will just enhance flex and more likely to cause cracking. It is not intended to be a spacer.

Thanks for the help. Installing now. Anyone know the torque on the bolts?
