Have you you galvanized a frame before? How much did it cost to have done, and did need to sand blast it beforehand?

Ive had multiple Jeep and truck frames galvanized, and a bunch of trailers, one dump box and two different truck cabs. The frames never meet the minimum (350.00) at the galvanizing place in Utica New York or V&S Galvanizing in Lebanon, Pa. If there is paint or grease, that must all be removed. Rust or mill scale does not need to be removed, it will be eaten by the acid dip. It will be about a 2 week turnaround at either place.

When I worked at the iron working shop in Plymouth, NH, we’d take stuff down to MA to have it galvanized all the time. I can’t remember what the place was called, but it was a huge operation.

You basically put strapping or a 'smaller version' of the frame inside the older one to retain the 'vintage or crusty' look. I've seen it done on a couple Rat Rods by guys around here. Lots of tedious work, but they wanted to keep the appearance of the rusty pitted frame while making it structurally sound. They were even redoing the rivets to go through both versions of the framing to keep things tight.
