Agreed, it’s the 2 hour highway drive from tow rig parking spot to trail head that has me concerned. I’ll be SOOOOO ready for next years trip tho.

You won’t be too far from Sicily island. There are a few rocks to drive on there.

Howdy dammit...from class of 2005 (albeit graduate degree - was not an undergrad there so not a true Aggie in spirit.)

That grinding sound resembles the sound my T90 made when the tip of the main shaft broke. The grinding was intermittent because the shaft was kept close to the correct position by the syncro gears and input shaft.

Question: Can you get the shaft and sliding gear out of the Tcase with it in the vehicle? I’ve pulled the pan and the yokes and rear bearing cap. Seems like I should be able to slide the old shaft out and replace it.

No, you need it on the bench to get it apart. There is a snap ring holding the output gear on the shaft you have to get off before the shaft slides out. Give me a call at S&H tomorrow and I'll explain it.

Thanks. I've got the snap ring off but the shaft isn't coming out for some reason. It almost looks like someone machined my gear to fit over a sleeve or bushing (the non-sliding one) and pressed the sleeve on the shaft. I have another shaft and gear here and there is definitely something different about the one in my Jeep. The one in my Jeep doesn't match metal shapers video either. I'll get pics tomorrow.

Had the pleasure of meeting James and kids tonight and enjoyed spending time telling stories and showing them my piles of junk.:) He did find a 18 X-fer case that might help his CJ-5 project out so that's a plus for the cause.
James, thanks for coming by and lets do lunch the guys soon!(y)

Jim that was great. My kids are asking why my shop doesn't look like yours . Did you get my message about the guy who can help with your welding? Thanks again.
