I hooked up ground to several different places and all I get are sparks and a hot negative cable when I try and make it go :n:

Guess this motor is no good. Haven’t decided if I’ll buy a new motor or a new winch yet.

Here's the power-in/out replacement motor for these Belleview winches

    *12V*(F&R)(3 POST)WINCH MOTOR

Think I'll call on Monday and see if I can get one.

a new motor will work , some motors are splines or keyed
but you'll need the solenoid pack for motor to operate in and out

I don't know much about the Warn upright winches, but when I needed to replace the motor on my older Ramsey winch, the newer motors needed a different solenoid set-up, and the wiring was a bit different. Again, I don't know about Warn uprights, but its definitely something to look into.

Thanks guys. The old solenoid setup is no good so I have to go all new anyway. I'm going to research if there is a way I can get a remote on a solenoid like a modern winch, then my wench could operate it while I have a cold snack

Dumb question, did you make sure that the brake was disengaged?

Was hoping that would work for you. If you feel like driving into it, you should be able to find out where the issue is. If you pull the motor out you can try to turn the shaft with pliers and see if it's stuck, if it moves you can put the motor in a vise and see if it will turn with power. With the motor out you can also leave the clutch engaged on the winch, release the brake, and pull on the line to make sure the drum isn't stuck. You generally have a 50/50 as to whether it's the drum or the motor.

Not a dumb question. I've had the motor off and the shaft in the motor turns free. The brake is off the winch at the moment so not that and the drum turns great, I unwound my cable and took it off before testing the motor. Pretty certain it's the motor
