I fabbed some out of .125 7075 T6 alum. Similar to yj doors. I just cut a template of the door opening and cut the alum, installed a heavy duty type piano hinge and a simple flip type latch to hold them closed. Along the top I riveted a 3/4"x 1 1/4" tube that stiffened the doors and gave me something to install the latches on. Attached the hinges to the body in the existing snap holes. Painted them a nice OD color. Doors are in Tx and I don't have any pics of them here (Ga.) I am in the process of moving all my stuff to Ga. Simple project if you have access to sheet aluminum or similar material.

I have been considering doing the same project,
Boyink I like the looks of the doors you posted.
AS soon as I get my work area set up in my gauge I am going to start to work on this one.

There you are, Mike! Haven't seen ya in a while! How's the new house workin out?

Anywho, Re: doors, I've been thinking about fabbing a set of tube doors for mine. Anyone seen these? They're just simple half doors made out of tubing, uncovered. Just sorta keep everything in the Jeep, not much else, but I like the looks of them on some Jeeps. Not sure yet if they'll look good on mine.... But I've got plenty of time to think about it! ;)

I've seen ready made doors like you describe, made for TJ,s called "Safari Doors", just the frame work, not solid, they look good. But $$, 150.00 each.

I just got a set of old soft door off ebay for cheap and they are just up the road, between GR and Kzoo. I think I will use the wire frame from these to make my half doors.

I will post a little update on what is going on in my life in the intro form later day.

    Hey,
Jeff so you want to make you mom feel safe while she is riding with you?

nah she does not like feeling that open to everything. my buddy took her around the neiborhood once in his YJ with no doors and she did not like looking over and seeing everything.

    I've never understood those doors.

    Friend of mine has 'em.

They don't keep mud off of you, the lower 1/2 of my soft doors do, they don't really keep you in the Jeep, that's what the seatbelt does.

At least in a Jeep you have a seatbelt even without doors unlike a motorcycle. Never understood why people got so freaked out about it.

    Not that I don't want a motorcycle. :D

Must not be THAT famous, because I am completely lost.... R)

Anywho, Re: doors, you're dead on, Sparky, they're just for a sense of security (and maybe some style). I don't see why people get freaked out, either, but that doesn't mean they won't! ;) If I do them (and as I mentioned, still undecided) it would be just for looks. And I'm definitely not gonna buy 'em, cuz I ain't paying that kind of money just for looks....

is there much fabricating needed to fit yj or tj doors to a early cj? e.g. 69-5?

i didn't think they would fit?

Just thought half doors would be alot cooler in the summer rather than full steel doors, plus help keep some of the mud out of the inside when wheeling.( I have a steel half-cab that stays on all year, Neb. weather)
