Does anybody have a good place to call and get a carb for a 231 oddfire 1976. Going back to a 2bbl as the 4bbl is WAY too big for this little engine.

There are lots Rochester 2G's on Ebay for the Dauntless. I assume the 231 uses the same?

I think the bore size is bigger on the 231 but not for sure. looking for a bolt on and go situation

Some 231's used the Rochester dual jet which was basically the front half of a quadrajet. Others used the 2GC, but you're correct about it being the larger version. Look for one with a 3 1/16" air cleaner mounting flange, vs the 2 5/8" version used on the 225.

  5. I think I have a 2GC. Sitting on the shelf.

so is the dual jet refereed to as the 2jet? or is the 2jet a 2gc?

  7. I really don't know a lot about them, but the 2gc is 2 jet with electric choke and 1 1/4 bores. There were 2 base sizes this is the large base. Early 2g's had the small base I think. colojeepguy might be a good source for knowledge on this.

Be advised: the mounting bolt pattern is different/larger for the OF 231 carb vs. the OF 225 carb. Perhaps a result of the larger bore??? Just in case you end with something needing an adapter plate.

  10. Mine has the larger bolt pattern. 20200418_093753.jpg

Here's a picture of the two sizes of 2 Jet carb side by side. As you can see, the bases are pretty close (it's about a bolt hole difference all the way around) but the larger air horn size is easy to spot.
Just for reference, a 2G is a manual choke carb, and a 2GC has the choke housing (round black cap) mounted on the side of the carb....some are at the top and some at the bottom. There's also a 2GV which uses a remote mounted bi-metal spring to activate the choke but AFAIK those only came on Chevrolets.

thanks everyone for the feedback. Wish I never got rid of the 2gc that was on my jeep. The larger carb was fun but it is just too much for the V6.
