Trying to figure out how to deal with this cut out other than replacing dash. Unusual size? CB? Thoughts. Thanks.

well the easy way . would tack some sheetmetal to back side and finish with bondo
    less warpage . that way

Or even just screw some sheetmetal on over it.
    Polished aluminum maybe?

Yep. Find a donor cowl / dash usually not too hard. Tack it in and gas mig up. If you can find a large piece of copper bus bar to use as a backer / heat sink it will go better.

Yeah, trying to fix it to look original will take some effort and skills. Easiest would be place a panel over it and find something to mount in the panel. Mount a radio in it and paint it a contrasting color, with distinctive hardware at the corners - make it look intentional.

I covered mine with a panel and put a USB charger/plug (and the fan switch for my auxiliary heater)....

I had to deal with a rough-cut radio hole in my '70 dash:

I cut a piece of aluminum out from this old panel:

I installed a cheap CB in the dash with the frame covering the large hole:

There you go. (y) Ala tomisinator too.

IIRC the OP has an intermediate Jeep? Note that the dash shown by 48cj2a won't fit an intermediate. The seat and steering column location are further to the left with an intermediate. Might be worthwhile for the OP to add a Jeep description to his profile and/or signature.

This is from another thread similar topic...there are sheet metal shops everywhere and should not be as expensive as a replacement dash.

Well I finally closed it up. Probably not the best way but good till Later. Bought some Vent covers (magnetic) at Home Depot for $6.00. They are paintable and easy to cut. (To bad they are not a little thicker). I spray painted it and stuck it on. Hopefully they stay on.

Just bought it. $10.00. I can use the little holes to put a pen in. The size should be perfect for my opening! Thx again.
