The axle is a flanged/centered 44- common to the AMC era.

I bought a 2" lift kit from a jeepster supplier. Not too happy about the Crown brand parts. The kit came with u-bolts that are, for the rear, 3" wide inside measurement. The fit is sloppy- much sloppier than the original u-bolts (on there since '72, no doubt).

I don't like the sloppy fit at all. Any suggestions? It looks to me- I measured them- that the original u-bolts were 2 7/8" wide. I believe the axle tube OD is 2 3/4".

Rear Dana 44 tube diameter for CJ's and Jeepsters (flanged axles including offset) is 2 3/4"
Tapered axle tubes are 2 1/2".

Thanks. I like the product line of the link to Chris's post. They have inside widths by the 1/8" increments; general Springs' u-bolts only go by the 1/4" increment.

Is the suggestion to go with 2 3/4" width bolts or just a little bigger?

They have to fit the holes in the spring plate. I took my spring plate to a NAPA store and match them up.

2 3/4" works fine but make sure that is measured on the inside of the u-bolt. Some vendors measure them center to center for some silly reason.

Thanks again- I'm going to go with a better fit than these crown parts
