Timing Gear Oil Jet

Makes sense to me. I haven't had the heart to pull that engine apart yet, so I don't know if it wasn't bottomed fully, or if there was no step.

 

If you had a sleeve slip you had a moron that made it and installed it. If it’s made right it’s impossible to have it slip.

And back to square 1. The vendor has now informed me that he has no 0.04 jets. Ill get a refund but still need to find the part. I have a running f head in another jeep that's wrecked, but I hate to pull that engine down cuz Ill likely never get it back together if I start cannibalizing it.

 

What does this piece look like, I can probably modify the tip to be .040”.

 

Keep the one you have and get somebody to TIG weld up the hole then redrill it to the smaller size using a numbered drill bit, that what I did.

 

Now that's interesting. This engine did have the stock canister set up. Maybe that's why it was missing?

 

When I was young and foolish (now, I'm just foolish) I modified an early F-head oil jet by soldering the orifice then redrilling it to the smaller dimension.

No proof of how well it worked, but no record of any disaster either.

 

What are these jets made of? Brass? Seems like it would be simple to braze closed the opening and redrill at the appropriate size

 

Mine is made of brass. Solder is more than acceptable for closing up the orifice so you can redrill. Just clean well, and solder just as you would for a plumbing fitting.

Mine looks like steel. I could just touch it with a mig and smooth it over. I'd have to buy a drill bit. I'm not even sure my press will chuck one that small. I do have a 3/64 I think. That would be 0.046

 

If you get stuck for drill equipment I would be happy to drill it out for you.
Reading other back threads it sounds like an setup that was out there is a plug where the jet would be combined with a canister oil filter returning oil to the timing gear area. Do you have a plug floating around in your parts? I wonder if that's what was there when you tore the engine down. If there was nothing in the hole you would have had low/no oil pressure issues per another thread.
