Are they the same on the L head and the F head?

As I understand it, some of the older ones have a larger orifice that causes oil starvation problems, 0.07". The fix was to go to 0.04"

x2. Retains greater pressure for the crank bearings.

Makes sense. I have an L head part here that I can stick a 1/16" drill bit into the orifice. So 1/16 is like .067 or something.

Thanks folks. This is good info.

    1 divided by 16 = .0625"

So in the garage this morning I happened to think about the drill bit mentioned above. Took my new oil jet from Willys Jeep Parts in Yuma Arizona (actually looks like a used part, maybe NOS) which was specifically ordered in 0.04 and so noted on the receipt. You guessed it, 1/16 drill bit fit in the hole with room to spare. They sent me a 0.07 part. The ones which caused oil starvation problems. Why would anyone even stock them? Their site lists both sizes, I assumed they would check. Lets see how they handle the return.

I don't understand why they would even list the larger size since it's not correct and is supposed to be replaced with the smaller one.

Because it's probably a used part.

Probably they have a crate full of the obsolete ones they bought from a warehouse...

I built my Fhead in my living room 24 years ago. My wife was not real pleased, but it was better than the transfer case and transmission under the kitchen table. I had similar problems as you. The oil jet was missing. The machine shop who welded the spun bearing journals lost my shims for setting end play, they also lost my special tapered crank bolts.. The most important thing for me was reading the service manual. It pretty much tells you all you need to know.

Well, I got ahold of the vendor today, and he will send me another one. He said to throw the first one out. At least it wont be in circulation anymore.

Yes, well... I once had a sleeve put in an F-head. After I completed the full rebuild, the sleeve slipped. :steamed:

That was at the best machine shop in my region. :banghead:

The old machist I bought my equipment from showed me how to do sleeves. You leave about 3/16" at the bottom uncut so the sleeve inserts till it bottoms out. It will never slip. I done two blocks that way now.
