Guys I'm having to replace the oil pan gasket on my AMC 360, I brought one but it's not the right part as it doesn't fit. my sump has a bulge at the oil pick up and another for the dipstick (opposite side slightly further back) where as the gasket i have is identical either side. I'm completely stumped. I've looked on Rockauto and the parts listed for a 78 Wagoneer with the 360 are (where my engine cane from):

    FEL-Pro OS30187c

This one looks exactly what I have now

    Or

    Mahle OS30538

The picture is poor and I cant see if its different.

I thought I may have got a gasket for a car version of the engine but it seems Rockauto lists the same 2 gaskets for the car as well?

Really confused, can someone tell me what gasket I need

Fel pro as you have above. That should be the correct one.

As I recall, the driver-drop '80-up Wagoneers have a dent in the pan to clear the cross-over exhaust pipe. This should not affect the pan gasket though. Kinda doubt the car pans are different... I don't recall ever hearing anything about a difference. The Jeep six cylinder pans have a skid plate, but AFAIK it's just the passenger car pan with an extra piece of steel welded on.

My books says one pan gasket for all V8s, 1971 to 1980. Jeep PN 320 6690. This crosses to the two numbers you list above.

Yeah, it turned out I got a faulty gasket set where both gaskets were cut identical and as it was in a packet I didn't realise till I went to use it. I brought a Fel-pro one and it fitted perfectly
