Steering Column Issues

You are right on track. Unfortunately something is stopping the sleeve fro coming more than 1/4” out.

 

You might have to remove the turn signal switch and pull them both together, that was a long time ago. Good Luck

 

Thanks everyone. I decided I need to find help on this one. Put the steering wheel back on without the lock plate to make sure I did get any surprises while driving. Got it started and drove it around. Now to find a mechanic who can get this fixed. I may just go to a dash key and skip the steering mounted key.

 

To get the rack out you have to pull the pins where it tilts then the two halves will come apart. There is a tool for this but can be done with the right bolt and vice grips.
