Like timgr said, maybe it's a matter of removing that surrounding material.

Well, other people have ordered and maybe they can report their findings if 65CJ5 doesn't.
This might mean a lot of disgruntled returns to the Jeepsterman.

In other news, Peter Debella Jeep Parts has what looks like a repro for CJ3A, M38 and M38A1 (same appearance).
But it's $50 and appears to be painted in OD.

Hmm. Well, you are all correct, it does not look like the one in the photos in post #37 and it is not what is shown in the listing. It did not come in a "Jeep box," it was bubble wrapped inside a flat rate shipping box. There is no removable edge, it's a solid plastic back (correction: it is METAL with a black pebble coating, not plastic at all) and it's all one piece. Seems fairly well made, and is way closer to what it should be than any of the ones I've had in the past, but, unfortunately, it does not appear to be NOS (note: see the rest of the thread as it is NOS after all...it may be a later version). Here's a shot of the back of mine. Pic isn't that great as I'm shooting it through the windshield but it should give you an idea.

Here's the link for that one: Body Catalog - Willys Kaiser CJ2A CJ3A Jeep  - Peter DeBella Jeep Parts - www.debellajeepparts.com It looks like it's a bit closer in some respects but it is still a bit different than NOS (they do indicate it's a repro). The bracket itself is not quite the same but the mirror part looks pretty good and it could be painted black easily enough. Looks like they have a tinted and un-tinted version and the mirror shapes seem to differ slightly.

I emailed the jeepsterman people and asked about their listing. I'll let you know what I find out.

I wonder if it's a bunch of mirrors that aren't new, current production but are from a newer time period, '70s or '80s maybe? Technically NOS, but not correct NOS. Let's see if they tried to pull a fast one.

Here's what they emailed back: "We thought they were old stock. They were all in Willy’s box. They must have been some sort of Willy’s replacement." They said I can return it or get a $15 credit and keep it. I'm checking on one from debella first, then I'll decide. The one I just got is definitely better than nothing, and also better than the others I have here now. So I don't want to let it go until I'm sure I can get something else that's better to replace it. I may just keep it as a backup anyway.

It may indeed be some sort of late replacement from Jeep. But it is not what's in the photo or shown in post #37.

I'm expecting mine this week, but if it's not like the pic on his web site I will tell him not interested and expect FULL credit including shipping or I will go to credit card and have it charged back.

This is what I suspected. The man he mentions, Morris was an old extremely knowledgeable guy. He wouldn't do you wrong either, when he died his daughter took over for a while and wanted to continue his good name. I'm hoping the new owner does his best to continue that legacy. I only talked to him on the phone a couple of times but he was a cool guy. He was the kind of guy that put the bill in with your order and you sent him the payment when you got the parts.

I sent him an email explaining the situation and he said no problem and even included a prepaid return UPS label.

  12. Hey guys this is John from The JeepsterMan. I am new to your site. My dad and me purchased The JeepsterMan about a year ago from Shelley and combined the business with our other business Just Jeepsters. First off, if anybody has any issues with a mirror they ordered we will gladly refund their money or they can keep the mirror and we will give them a $15.00 credit. We will also pay the shipping if customers decide to send it back. As noted by others this is a very close match. Secondly, we assumed they were old stock and people do make honest mistakes. The mirrors were removed from a large old box that has a Willys Overland sticker and a part number 671147. I have included photos of the box. We updated the listing and took new photos. I also inspected the mirrors, they actually are nice quality. The backing of these is actually metal with some sort of black texture on the back. The bracket appears to be just like the originals. Overall it is a nice mirror. I also spoke with the previous owner, Shelley about these mirrors. She had these mirrors for a very long time and they did come from Willys Overland. She believes they could have been some sort of replacement from Willys Overland. This box is probably 30 years old. I have 2 boxes of these. She had been selling these for years. We always strive to sell quality parts and if we make an error on something we will correct it.

I decided to keep the jeepsterman mirror. I've been driving around with it the past 2 days and it works as needed and I'm OK with it. It's WAY better than what I had. I'm keeping the debella mirror in mind for later as well. John at jeepsterman was very good about the whole order.

Reviewing the added posts to the thread, I think the jeepsterman mirror is a 671167, but one that's black pebble coated (maybe to make it more appropriate to use in the CJs). 955036 is the more squared off style that was in the website photo. So the jeepsterman mirror is an NOS mirror, just a different style.

Willys Jeep Parts lists an assortment of inside rear view mirrors and their stock numbers 671167 and 671167-NOS appear to be the same mirror that The JeepsterMan supplies, minus the pebble grain/leather texture on the back and the black plastic(?) border. I bet the mirror body is mainly steel. Try a magnet to test.

Anyway, the indentation around the circumference on the back plus the three rivets and the raised/embossed area they are located in matches, according to 65CJ5 SRD's photo.

That site says the application for the above mirrors is CJ-3A/3B/5/6 DJ-3A. May not be 100% accurate but that's something.

I wish he had more pics but I guess something like #955036 is what we thought we were getting.
I wonder what that extra bracket on the back is for? v v v

John, I did not realize they were metal backed with texture, that's good to know. I agree, they seem to be well made which was one of the reasons I decided to keep mine.

I think that was a support arm for another model (not the CJ). The Jeepsterman mirror does not have that little bracket (but you don't need it on our CJs).

Yes, just confirmed with a magnet that the jeepsterman mirror IS metal. It looks like the jeepsterman mirror is NOS. Just a different style than what we were expecting. I'm glad I kept mine!

The mirror shown in Hellion's post above sold by Willys Jeep Parts is evidently an NOS Kaiser Jeep part, based on the box. That would place its production date between 1963 and 1970. As Hellion noted, that mirror appears to be identical to those sold by Jeepsterman, with the exception of the textured black finish.

The pricing of these mirrors is, um, a bit different as well....Jeepsterman's are $35, while WJP's are priced at $175!:

For the late model wagons and pickups.

Yep. A slightly "deluxe" or a later model variation, perhaps.

For anyone else, that black bracket could be a useful base to cobble something together. Maybe remove the wrongly shaped bracket from
the Peter Debella mirror and replace it with the black one. Make it all match w/ gloss black paint.
