Air Compressor.

    Ok. Please don't think I have lost it. I have 30 gal air compressor that I want to put into attic above my garage. It's loud and would really like it off of the floor. In order for it to not vibrat the dickings of the ceiling, etc, I was thinking I could suspend it mid air with heavy duty nylon straps. Any thoughts? Thanks.

    Did not plan on checking daily. Attic floor is 5/8" plywood sitting on 2 x 6 ceiling joist. Was thinking of suspending just a few inches off deck.

    If it's loud it must be an oilless compressor. How often does it run? Can't you build a box around it where it sits? Even partially enclosed would cut down on the noise a bunch. Personally I don't think the roof supporting it would be a very good idea.

    This. I'd go for sound proofing, or sound reduction. Even just a partial enclosure with sound absorbing material as referred to in the link from Cap-n-Cray.

    Put it outside. Thats what I did with my 60 gallon. Its loud, big and heavy. If someone wants to steal it and they are man enough to carry it off. I won't be able to stop them. have at it!

    You will want to be able to get at it to drain condensation from the tank on a regular basis. If you don't, you will rot the tank out.

    I think any enclosure would risk overheating, if it restricted the flow of cooling air.

    attic is way too hot . put it on wheels and roll it outside when you need it

    Build a shelter for it outside, plumb it in permanently.

    I should have originally said partially like in my later post. Even a sheet of plywood barrier would make a big difference.

    I greatly appreciate the feed back and suggestions. Don't think I will move it to attic.
    I do want an oil filled unit. Been waiting for this one to die. Thanks again for the help. You guys never fail at good advice!

    I have a ~5x8x6’ enclosure for all my metalworking equipment (and compressor) to keep the sawdust at bay. It’s big enough that the heat doesn’t get overwhelming when the compressor runs constantly, and it cuts the noise in half.

    I saw an easier solution in the following video (from your noise reduction tips link) at 3:08 if you look closely, but again at 3:18 which is easier to spot. ;)

    Got a 5 HP Quincy. Reliable, plenty of air.
    25 + years old.
    Drain it often need to get an auto drain.

    Can't go wrong with a Quincy.
