Ignition Switch

Lemme change tack here ... where can I get an original or oem snugger-upper nut?

Regarding the switch ... I rewired with the EZ harness a few years ago. When I was on the switch it had all the terminals in the right places. Could have been original or oem replacement. Of course, my signature says i suspect it's one of my short locations, so I may be getting another one anyway.

 

I replaced my switch and it has a metal "lok nut" behind the round face nut.. The lok-nut goes on the back side of the dash panel..and the round
nut goes on the face side..

 

Here's what the original switch looked like (left photo is from the 1966 Jeep Universal Parts List). It was made by Pollak, and had a metal neck and body. The rear portion with the connectors was bakelite or thermoplastic.

 

Welcome from Michigan, Detroit area,I will send you an alloy nut from my old switch if that will help you. I replaced mine it was worn out, the key would fall out while running. I am going up to my cabin, where my Jeep is, and I will bring back my old switch if you want the front nut. It will be about a week before I come back.

Looking at this may explain my unique dash nut. I think my switch is a different shape. The fat part of the body is longer on mine if I'm remembering it correctly, and the narrow neck is shorter. It was probably aftermarket from I don't know when.

There are Pollack (and generic universal) that are the same basic shape, only with a shorter "neck". Also, '65 should have screw terminals on the back, where '66-up should have spade lug connections. Most any of the aftermarket switches are fine. An original Pollack switch will have a chrome retaining nut with wrench flats, and the generics usually have an alumunum knurled nut. Either will work fine.

My Jeep was raised near there. Brought home as a baby by my in-laws' family to the Hardwoods on the west side of Hubbard Lake. It spent 40 years there working and then watching as new baby Jeeps took over all of its jobs. Ten years ago I got it. It needs some joint replacements but it's got a strong heart and brain (aka wiring).

 

Have used a marine ignition switch?
How many positions would you use for the 65 Cj5?
I see some with 4 positions,accessory,off-run-start!

 

The original CJ-5 ignition switches have 4 positions. From left to right those are Accessory - Off - On - Start.
