I am wondering if some one has an answer for my question. I have a t-14 transmission and a dana 18 transfer case. anyway, my service manual says that there are drilled passages between the transfer case and transmission. for the purpose of oil circulation between the cases. "b-37 jeep universal service manual". only thing is the transfer case gets over full and the transmission goes low, the oil must be traveling through the bearing near the transfer case gear. should I put my own holes in the transmission case.

Is it possible a gasket is where it shouldn't be?

back when I ran the T14 . oil transfer . was a normal thing .
I would just add to transmission till it stayed full .
yes the transfer case will be over full by using the fill plug method . you know it's full . don't take it out

Agreeing with ROn. The transfer is there; no need to add any holes. Just make sure both units have oil. Note that the flow is slow enough that if your transfer case is empty and you fill the transmission, oil will not immediately flow into the transfer case. I'd put my finger into the transmission fill hole. If I felt oil, I'd top up. If not, I'd pull the transfer case fill plug and be ready for oil to come out. If low on oil, top up both the transfer case and the transmission.

And so for regular check/topping off I only fill the transmission. As long as it doesn't take more than a couple ounces I know the TC is good.

One of my Jeeps was pretty leaky back in the day. I removed the fill plug, screwed in an elbow with about a 12" nipple, then fashioned a cap with a dipstick reaching into the elbow. I had a hole in the floorplate to check and add gear oil.
It was crude, but very functional.

This is what I have, works great because you don't get wet when you open the t-cast plug.
Transmission is a 3" long tube in the case to clear the clutch then a elbow and plug. Transfer case has a street elbow in the case then about 2" of pipe then a pipe union and plug. A big funnel keeps the floor clean but in a pinch you can get by without a funnel or use a soda bottle funnel.

it is possible. I wondered if I covered a hole. when I get another gasket set I will check.

I can try that, it can't go any higher in the transfer case, it will have to go back through the bearing. I might have to get a better seal for the e brake shoe section of the case, cause when the oil gets high it tends to weep there thanks

I will try a few other things, before I do that. does oil come out by the e brake? I was measuring the difference in height between the t-case plug and the trans plug it is about 2 inches. you could almost tie the two together. thanks for the idea.

That issue may be oil coming past the yoke. When you put all of that together did you put black RTV on the splines of the yoke?

I did mine twice this week. When I stripped one of the old bolts that attaches the shaft. :banghead:

I guess your right. would the transmission oil ever get higher than the plug?

no I didn't put rtv on the shaft. I will look when I dissemble. one guy said to put two seals on the output shaft. thays a pretty good idea too. thanks
