Mysterious Coolant Hose...

What was the purpose, a thermostat bypass? Wondering what function it might have served or if it’s even necessary. I haven’t been able to research any clues, ha. Thanks for any help.

    To me it looks like there is tape covering a pair of knockouts. There might have been a vintage aftermarket heater that was removed or they never sourced one. Either way your typical bypass is plugged so you should keep that line open for now. Maybe source a heater for it.

    Well, I guess it’s heater supply and return ... ther is a fitting/shut off valve at its mid point, but no evidence that a heater was ever installed. I don’t need a heater here in central Texas, so debating whether or not to remove it and cleanup that side of the engine compartment or just leave it in place since its been there 50+ years according to the PO.
