Bought a motor Cheap yesterday. Today I went to get some number to actually see what it is.

right side block behind power steering pump are the numbers 6K13585?? They are deeply stamped and are there stamped twice once above the other. The number after the 5 appears to be a 8 or maybe a 6 I can not see enough of the last number to even guess.

    6K1358xx.jpg

I have looked at a few dauntless pages but most say the 6 should be a K L M N Y Z K or L the K I think indicates the 7.6 to 1 compression ratio. None of the tables I have looked at have anything like 135856? or 135858? So I have no Idea what we have.

The only number on the heads I can find is on the rear. Number 8651 and its on both heads in the same place.

    8651.jpg

    What do I have?

    Thanks,

    Robert

The block numbers are the ones in GREEN in Tim's post... the first set of numbers in his pic from the bottom up, right after the teeth on the fly wheel.

Those p/s brackets are getting very hard to find. Even if you end up not using the engine.

Found a number that matches something. Just like in Tims photo. ITs a 1967 to 1974 Dauntless 225.

    1375162

That is one of the casting numbers used in the 67 to 74 years. Any way to narrow down to the year from the markings shown?

I'm stumped on the casting numbers. My "bible" of engine casting numbers doesn't list 1375162. The 225 numbers usually begin 135..., 138..., 139...,185...
    The 231 odd-fire numbers begin with 125..., or 126... . The '78-'88 even-fire numbers begin 125..., 126..., 255... .
If you get a valve cover off, post up a head casting number.

what are the engine code numbers on the right side of engine on the lip between 2 and 4. i picked up a 225 recently and it was the only way to identify it. the casting numbers didnt match anything i found but the production code dated it as a 64

    My list shows that as a 64-67 225 V6.

I will be trying to pull a valve cover to look at the for numbers on the heads. Are these "engine code numbers on the right side of engine on the lip between 2 and 4" on the side of the block just below the head?

Yes there’s a flat lip below the head that should have numbers and letters stamped on it

    With a boat wedge---

Holley carb with end pivot bowls? A wedge helps but in no way make those bowls really off-roadable.
