Does anyone know if they make LED lights to replace the lights in the speedometer cluster in a 1974 CJ5? I replaced the incandescent lights with LED lights in the instrument cluster of my 1994 Defender 90 and what a difference.

I got some on ebay. Havent tried them yet. Not dimmable, so if that is important you'll need to stick with incandescent.

My son put LED lights in his 97 TJ. He cross-referenced the bulbs with the original number and ordered them on the internet.
Should be able to find this on the old Inner -Web.

I don't recommend super bright instrument lights, bit of a distraction & could actually affect your ability to see.

Here what i did....improve a lot the quality of light and it can be dime trought toe oem switch

On the picture i put it 360 around but finaly i just put around 130 degree on the upper part so you dont have the light directly in you're eyes

I went with LEDs from superbrightled.com. This is what it looks like:

Agree with Howard, don't get them to bright.

I having done some research I have determine that the original bulbs are 53 and 57. Super Brite says to use BA9 LED's. Does this sound correct? If so, the problem then becomes what color. BA9's are offered in cool, warm, red, amber, green and blue. I am tending towards warm or cool but if anyone has real life experience please advise what works the best.

Well if you want the look of the old incandescent (filament) bulbs, the warm is the way to go. The cool and warm will both produce (or should) the same amount of brightness or lumens but it'll be down to your personal preference.

Looks like Johneyboy03 has the warm color on his tachometer and possibly on the speedo, can't tell on the others.
