My gas tank is in bad shape and I was thanking of getting one of the 21 gallon polyethylene gas tanks. Does anyone know if there are any drawbacks to these?

Unless you don't have a skid plate there are none. Chrysler hasn't built a vehicle for at least 15 years that didn't have a poly tank including jeeps.

No drawbacks to the poly, but the size means it'll hang lower. Do you have to buy a matching skidplate, or does it let you use the factory one?

The catalogue says to use the factory skidplate. My jeep doesn't have one, that is part of the reason the tank is in such bad shape. If it does hang lower I will just go with the normal 15 gallon replacement tank.

Well there's no place for the tank to grow in any other direction, so it's gotta be lower! ;)

Definitely spring for a skidplate with the new tank - in addition to protecting the bottom of the tank, it's really the way the tank is installed. The skidplate "cradles" it.

That makes sense, thanks for your help.
