I've used a VW connecting rod as a clamp just above the pitman arm at the base of the box, then extended it over to the right frame rail below the crossmember. The lower part of the steering box is what needs to be braced.

I made one out of angle iron and an exhaust clamp. Seems to help. My steering box mount kept cracking, but hasn't done it since. I'll get a picture tomorrow.

Best to brace it up as high as possible on the sector shaft housing.........as the lower portion is hollow and vacant of any strength..........I've seen plenty of boxes crushed there and turned into junk..........We have even been know to install a 2nd bearing in that cavity to add strength ( this picture has just one bearing and the seal ) from the seal up not much strength............Guys like U-KNOW-WHO that are tough on equipment need all the help they can get................(y)

A piece of 1.250 x.125 wall Chrome moly and a pair L/R hand threaded Heim Joints makes for easy adjustment...

This is a terrific design. On some versions the split line is in line with the direction of deflection, which does not seem optimal. Your version also does away with the bolts that are in shear on the opposite end. Not that theyll break, but bolt holes are necessarily a loose fit so I can imagine the joined parts loosening.

My 2001 dodge ram 2500 has a steering brace, but it also adds another bearing to the steering box...

It looks like it adds a lot to the box...

Hard to see but the brace goes across the frame and a new Pitman nut has a machine rod that a bearing holds. It adds a bearing where the forces are high...

    Pretty simple, just a thought...

A wise choice. I was surprised at the price jump, although i did buy it 9-10 years ago.

That is the one I put on my CJ6. Mine has power steering and I had to do some grinding on the box and the bracket to get a good fit, but it looks like it should work pretty well. I don't intend to do serious wheeling with this jeep and I mainly wanted something to help deal with the added load the 33's will likely transfer to steering parts.

I drilled a hole through a web on the box and slipped a 3/8 inch heavy duty exhaust clamp up as high as possible. I use lock nuts and don't get crazy torqueing them down so I don't crush the output tube of the box. I then welded a flat to correspond with the exhaust clamp bolt pattern, to a 1 inch square which I extended up to the opposite side frame rail. Inside the 1/4 inch thick boxed frame rail is a piece of 1/2 inch thick 3"x6" piece of flat that the brace bolts onto with 1/2 inch grade 8 bolts. This is on a manual box, but I will do the same when I convert to power steering. I'm hard on things too.
