74 Cj 5 Shakes Right Front When Brakes Applied Hard

Another possibility. When you brake hard your front end noses down. Maybe your driveshaft makes contact with something when the nose dips down.

 

I checked for contact points, I couldn’t find any

 

Its a tie rod end or ball joint probably. Jack up your front end and jerk on everything until you find the loose part. When the wheels are up off the ground take one hand on the top and one on the bottom of the tire, pull back and forth and see what moves. Do it sideways next. Pull on your drag link, your tie rod. Find the problem.

 

Question? I have noticed more lately that when stomping the brakes that the problem is more front central of the Jeep, is it possible that a wornout pilot bushing can cause shaking and chatter when the brake is applied hard, having something to do with the output shaft bearing being sloppy combined with a worn out pilot bushing? Seems like the whole transmission region is what is shaking, only when brake is hard applied, may also be why it doesn’t do it in reverse because there’s no forward inertia, idk I just don’t think it’s any of the other things, thanks for your opinion in advance!

 

Ah! Sloppy, mushy motor mounts letting the engine pitch forward. Look to see what your fan has been hitting.

You sure it isnt a noise from behind? If tranny mount separated the engine could tip forward, raising the rear driveshaft, which rubs on something.
