Willys Help

Discussion in 'Intermediate CJ-5/6/7/8' started by James Robbins, Feb 13, 2019.

  1. I am going to look at this Willys this AM. The guy who owned it passed away and his S.I.L. is selling it...This pic and a price tag of 10K is my only knowledge of it. Can someone help ID exactly what model and roughly what year it might be? The color (purple) has got to go but I need some help on what to look for before making an offer...[IMG]

cj2a by the looks of it. Should have a d25/d41 l134/t90/d18
    I’d say 46-49

I don’t know what you’re looking for in a flatty but 10k can get you a very nice one up to or better than your liking. Heck an mb/gpw can be had at that price rebuilt.

Just me but I’d never shell out that change for a stock flat fender. Shop around; there are better and more cost effective ones out there. I wish someone had told me that years ago....

    Good luck

  3. Thanks for the input. Seemed a little steep...Don't even know if it runs...

10K is too much. If it were original and untouched then maybe it could bring that price?

  5. Safely say its a cj2a ('46-'49)? Anything look outa whack? Windshield?

The blocks like to crack around the distributor. Not a big deal but something to look for. I see it has a steering stabilizer so something is being compensated for (steering bell crank or ross box or etc) and 9” brakes are lackluster even when rebuilt imo.

Windshield looks correct. Grill is correct. Tub still has the bow brackets for the top.
I’d phone the man from bonney lake and see what his inventory yields. ;)

  7. "Stabilizer" is that piece behind front bump correct?

Correct. I try to point out as many flaws as possible when I buy something. Keeps the owner on their toes and can get you more room for haggling.

  9. Ha! Thank you. Gonna see it at 9 this morning with a friend.

    Grill says 46.
I see these for sale all the time at around 10K. I think that's outlandish, but some clearly have gotten it. I say 5K, but I am cheap and know how "interesting" these are to drive in stock form.

I think the market will advise him when it sits there forever at 10 grand. It’s not a bad looking jeep it’s just not a 10 grand jeep. I’m thinking 3-5, like others said, but I really dont know much about flatties.

I would send the guy to eWillys.com to get an idea of the market. The problem is they look at the asking price on Craig's List or eBay and assume that is what they should get (or more). As others have said, it isn't a $10K early 2a. I get a lot of guys wanting to sell me their jeeps (or they are selling for someone) and they rarely have realistic expectations. I try to advise them the best I can and help with ad wording. So, for example, if this is a column shift, that is what I would push.
