1968 Cj5 Body Lift Hard To Find

Is there a kit out there seems I can't find one.
And would it be better to install a 2.5 lift with 1" shackles to get close to 4" lift or just go with a 4" lift
Wheres a good place to buy jeep parts

If it's stock, you really can't do a body lift due to the steering and clutch and brake pedals. There are several companies that make a nice 2.5" lift spring for an early CJ (I like BDS) which will get you up to a 33" tire. Any more than that and you start getting into major modification.

I used hardwood ,mostly oak from furniture factory scrap, where my son works.
1 in thick, slightly more than the stock squeezed rubber, and it won't collapse.
It reduces body movement on frame, and raises u bout 1/2 In.
No mods to pedals, and other necessary. I primed it, and paiinted it black, it will outlast the steel!. Big trucks used hardwood to attach box beds to frames, so it's strong enough.
That and 2-2-1/2 In lift springs are bout all the stock driveshaft will handle.
Plenty of clearence for 32s. Benn 3 years now, no problems, and zero cost!
It's also easy to mod and work with. U could use thicker wood with mods to problem areas?

 

I'm a fan or "slap-shot" body lifts. Universal and inexpensive.

 

In case you wondered, these are hockey pucks, I think. Originally Jeep used car tire sidewall. Just go at an old tire with your sawzall, cut some 2"x4" rectangles and put a hole in the middle.

 

Hahahahah slap shot that's a good one. Us folks way up here in canada know a thing or two about slap shots

How bout, sandwiching, a piece of 1in hardwood between 2 tire sidewall rubbers? For a body lift?

 

I think I am just gonna replace the body mounts with aftermarket ones, no lift

 

Steer clear of omix-ada. Got body mounts from them that deteriorated in less than a year.

Boat trailer roller is another popular choice. Slice it with a bandsaw or hacksaw into insulators. You should be able to find individual urethane insulators of various thicknesses, if you search.

 

If you want to go DIY mounts--I made my "hockey pucks" by using a hole saw (drill) on salvaged rubber snowplow deflector (rubber belting)

 

hole saw in the drill press...free scrap of horse stall matt...thick dense rubber



the other piece of similar stuff is the base for a road construction pylon i found...

Those mats are dense. I have 5 or so hanging in front of my backstop on my rifle range. I don’t think I’ve had something go through more than 3

 

I think we talked about this in your other thread, but why not again?: I'd stay away from "lift" shackles. To get 1" of lift out of shackles you will need 2" longer than stock shackles which is way too long for those short front springs. After market shackles are worth getting for the strength as the stock shackles can fail when used hard ... and a little longer is OK....but don't do it for the lift. 3/4" over stock is about right (3/8" lift).

If you want 4" of lift, and no body lift, the SuperLift Soft Ride springs come in a 4" spring. People seem to like them. That's quite the spring lift for an ECJ5, so you'll want to make sure the drive shafts are not too extended.

 

And don't forget driveshaft angle? It gets steep with that much lift.

 

Just gonna stay with a 2.5" leafspring lift with new body mounts.

I've been conundring this same thing lately...as i prepare to paint body parts...seems theirs some info but nothing straight forward or easy to read...
a puck here or there...where...
ive searched but i need a real schematic A b or c...real life s@#$ would help
