I have been in the process of breaking down a narrow track D30 with disks and had parts scattered about. I have recently found out that someone swiped my spindles with the plastic camber shims which I had marked for reinstall. I have to buy new spindles for the axle and caster adjusters. Is there a source for the shims? What are my options for having good allignment after rebuild? Not happy!

Thanks for the info. How do I set up the spindles. I thought the factory put these on and corrected the mis alignment when produced.

I don’t think the factory ever installed these on new vehicles.

You’ll need to assemble everything, spindles, hubs, and wheels then check your camber angle by taking the vehicle to an alignment shop or determining the angle at home. Based on the initial reading you then purchase the correcting shims with the amount of correction you need and install the shim between the knuckle and spindle.

In my case I purchased a junk yard Dana 44 out of a Wagoneer and narrowed one side to fit under my CJ. When I was finished with the install I drove the Jeep to an alignment shop and had them give me the Caster, Camber and toe in readings. My caster angle was within spec but Camber was off a few degrees on each side. Drove home, ordered the correct Cosmo shims and installed them on the Jeep. Returned to the alignment shop, had then re-check things and set the toe in. It’s a process but well worth it to get things right.

Glad to hear it’s doable even with a little extra hassle. Going to cost some. Thanks
