They also do the 60/40 bench seat style.

  5. Is the 60/40 only on the Tuxedo Park? Also did that style of seat covers come stock on the Tux.I'm a long ways away from needing seat covers, but it would be nice to know when the time comes.

At least in the intermediates, you had to specify buckets or 60/40 from the option list. IIRC the 60/40 seat was less expensive than the buckets. You even had to order the passenger seat separate, at least with the buckets. If you wanted to, you could buy a CJ with just a driver's bucket seat.

During this period you could order many different things from the factory, even if it wsan't on the regular option list. There's even a place on the VIN for the "SSR&O", special sales request and order, so that the dealerships could research the history of the vehicle.

    Hi Folks,

I too bought a set from the Ebay guy for my '61 CJ5. I took them to an upholstry shop and asked them to install them. They did not fit my seats. "You pays your money and you takes your chances". I had the shop recover them using the covers that came on my seats as patterns. I do not know if these are the originals.

I have several pictures of the re-covered seats here:

The seats that came with the Jeep are shown here:

If anyone wants to try the Ebay covers I bought, just let me know. I'll sell them for $50 plus shipping. No guarantee they will fit your seats.

I received my seat apholstery from the E-bay guy a couple of months ago. Never had a long wait to receive them, but didn't like the flat rate shipping cost of $25. Waiting for the weather to warm up a bit more to make working the vinyl easier. Boyink's install looks very good, and was the reason I decided to go this route. I did e-mail the guy today about the 60/ 40 bench seats and his response was he's not making them at this time.

I had contacted him, and explained that the aseat covers that he was selling would not fitmthe 64 and earlier seats, he asked me to send pics and he would see what he could do. I was hoping someone would repro the original pattern. has anyone bought the beachwood canvas ones?

We would be interested in the low back covers that anyone has. We mainly need them for some replacement seats we bought for our CJ7. I can't imagine much difference. We also have some CJ5 low back seats Hippo sent us that need some covers so whatever you have should work either way.

On the covers that didn't fit your seats, what was the problem? Which way didn't they fit?

Email us and I'll get a m.o. out before I leave town this weekend. Shipping will be to 24012.

Probably can use both people's sets.

AFIAK the covers that the eBay guy sells will fit the later seats where the seat frame and mount is *not* integral to the seat.

Take a look at the pics here:
    http://www.boyink.com/supersizedutch_comments/26_0_9_0_C/

If you can't break your seats down to that level without having to cut the vinyl to get the frame out, then the upholstery kits won't work.

Thanks for the info. The set that Hippo sent us for Louie looks like yours. They are not the same as the early seats that came of of him, but you know what they say about beggars.

Anyhow, the 7 seats don't have that space between the bottom and back. I haven't looked at them terribly closer and know I can get a kit on ebay. We bought an extra set of seats for it because the driver's seat has the back leaning back more and more to the point of being too far back to lean against.

As always, your pics provide a good idea for futher investigation.

    Thanks!

I think the answer to both questions is......go to an auto upholstery shop and pay them ~$200-300 to receover them.

And feel lucky they did it for that, I guess, have had them recovered for as little as $35 a seat. Went and got a price the other day.....$380

I got a quote of $225 for my 60/40's here in town. That would not include any mechanism repair if needed (new springs, welding broken supports, etc.)
