I got my 67 CJ5 on auto dollies. It’s down to a rolling chassis and I’m ready to pull rear end housing out for seals, bearings, brakes, & paint. Any ideas on how to keep chassis mobile around the shop? My only ideas are 2x4 across dollies to hold rear of frame. But seams frame would slide around too much why trying to move it. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

    C-clamps to the 2x4?

Engine lift on the rear hitch/bumper when/if you need to move it?

Quite possibly the most unsafe way achievable, but I'd probably put jackstands on the dollies, then ratchet strap the whole mess to the frame at the rear crossmember.

I've done this with HF furniture dollies.

IIWM I'd find a junk trailer axle & some old wheels/tires to put in there.

Lol im thinking this is a question for the Porsche forum you would get 15 pages of replys complete with calculations and measurements. Id probably put cement blocks sandwiched with pieces of plywood on the dollies rather than jack stands.

Never got around to doing it, but I thought of making some dollies that the jack stands could be mounted to. That way you could still move the frame without the rear end and could adjust the height, as well as fab other things to mount on the dollies. I keep lots of HF jack stands around the shop because there is no telling how long the vehicle will stay on the jack stands. I made some sawhorses out of 4X4's to put the body on while working on the frame. If I mounted dollies on them I could have moved them easier.

Just throw a spare rear axle in it?

    Great idea. Way more simple.

Good idea, quicker than fabing up something.

If you want to drive to Detroit, I will loan you my matched pair of rolling steel saw horses I made for my Jeep. If you have a welder, you can make a saw horse that will work for cheap, and put it on your dollies, be safer. Good luck.

I bought 4 of the harbor freight dollies for $8 ea and used them with a piece of 3/4 plywood cut to fit and used jack stands for several months. worked good

I was down to the bare frame when I was doing the POR 15, on the cj6. Casters worked for me.
