My Latest Bad Idea? Modifying Hanging Throttle Pedal To Floor Pedal

I'm new to the forum and quickly becoming addicted. Mostly because all my ideas I knew were bad ones keep getting shot down by people who know better. This one in particular has been on my mind for a while and I'd love some feedback from anyone who's done it or anyone who knows why I'll fail miserably.

Anyone with a hanging throttle pedal on the CJ5 knows why they're awful, so I won't go into detail about why I want to convert. Driving my dad's CJ3b with the floor mounted pedal is so much better for the touchy low-speed mud riding we use our jeeps for.

Has anyone converted their floating pedal to a floor-mounted pedal? If so, how did you do it? This one is rapidly moving to the top of my to-do list. Any advice or insight is greatly appreciated.

I put in one of those Chevy truck gas pedals. It was better, but not as good as I was hoping for.
It still puts my foot at an odd angle...my next plan is to either move the base/hinge of the pedal further up the firewall, or build some sort of shelf for my heel to rest on just in front of the pedal.

    Bowbender I'm workin' on it!

I've been thinking adjustable heel rest, I think I saw a pic here quite a while back. I'll try a search.

I think this is a great idea & topic,
I'd like to see more input on this.
Although I like my current factory set-up, it's worth discussion.

    Thanks!

I welded a bearing on the end of the stick thing

Made a pedal out of a piece of mild steel and welded a hinge to it

    Welded that to the floor

Here's the problem with it. On bumpy roads and no foot on the pedal it wants to bounce up and down, and the pedal is heavy enough that it actually pushes the accelerator each bump... super annoying. I need to attach a spring that will keep it from bouncing.

Or weld a "C" channel on the back side for the bearing to ride in.

Loving the ideas and examples here. I'm going to do it similar to what you've all shown
