Mine is rubber too, I'd say yours is original. I get the impression that some of these changes were based on parts at hand, if they ran out of rubber thingies, they grabbed something else and kept on cranking them out....

After looking at your pic again, mine is different in that my rubber "hose" is held on by a piece of welt going through it and riveted to the bracket.

Things like that often depend on what year your jeep is. (?)

Every early CJ one I've seen has been fabric welt (not felt).

'57 would be riveted welt, I'm certain.

I have only seen the welting on all of mine and there have been a few. Even the 54 M170 has welting with rivets.

Known original '64 Tux and '66 CJ5 both have riveted welt on the stand-offs.

Did on of the model years use a hood rod to hold the up? Sort of like many of the modern cars?

No, the hood was held in the up position by the tall footman loop on the hood that engaged into the center safety windshield clasp.

The Willys F-head and flathead era trucks did.

71 cj5's have hood prop rods. And every CJ after.

My 70 has a rod as well. Maybe with the start of the larger windshield?

1968 or 1969 for sure had hood prop rod with larger w/s and hood with socket and brackets for storage of rod and a bracket on grille strut rod for holding rod in upright position. I can post pic if needed.

The socket on mine is all wallered out and the ball on the rod won't stay in the socket. I have not looked at repairing it. I sort of forgot until this came about.

Do you have photos of this?

May not be period-correct for a '67 or a '68 but it would beat having to open the hood past vertical /90° every time to check the oil, etc.
