Roll Bar Interchange

a local guy has a roll bar from a 68. will it fit a 62?

 

Generally speaking 55-75 CJ5 are all the same. The brand of the front hoop can fit better or worse depending on how it was put together. No telling what it was originally built for. Many were universal fit hoops to fit CJ up to 86 and those tend to stick back further due to the 76 and up windshield being tipped back a little bit.

That is not a possibility at this point. It's a 45-minute drive in my modern-day car.

 

No sense of adventure?

 

I still have to get a all new set of tires before I would consider this thing roadworthy. It's more of a hazard to other people than myself at this point. Perfectly fine for bombing around the fields and trails behind my house but not driving down the road.

Please tell me you won't rely on that seat belt mounting if you do get the cage.

 

The spreader up front does add strength to the cage, but keep in mind that it can get in the way of using the windshield latches and block your view of the engine gauges. And depending on the cage design, the spreader can make install/removal very difficult as it prevents any flex on the front hoop to help clear the body. Not trying to scare you away from adding the spreader, but something to think about when designing the cage.
