My son in law sent me this photo of his new work truck. Neither of us have a manual on this one. He is trying to identify the part on the fender unplugged.

I would guess it is the electronic ignition module .

I guess that's possible but the image from parts web page does not look like that and has different connectors. CA emissions has 8 wires and the rest have 6.
However I don't see the ignition module anywhere else in the photos.

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

    Idle speed control box.
Electronic ignition control unit underneath w/s/w reservoir on fender.

Makes sense. Rebuilt carb, new fuel pump and filter and it still won't idle plugged or unplugged .

I looked at RockAuto and O'Reilly and don't see one for sale Does it have another name?

    Thanks!!

So this is the stepper motor control? That's what I would expect. Look for "Nutter bypass."

As I understand it, the idle jet has a stepper motor that's "computer controlled." You can fix it so it will run, but I think the "fix" basically disables the stepper motor.

RATTYFLATTY I think you need a little more throttle

Nice looking ride. As far as the under hood mess, the 250 I6 GM HEI swap along with a Motorcraft 2150 would do wonders for it.

I passed this on. They are going to read up on it .my reading indicates this might be the trick

    Thanks.

How about getting a non-emissions carb for it and getting rid of the extra wires/vacuum/etc which will cause headache and heartache later. Do you have an emissions check in your area?

Oh, and I forgot to say, what a nice Scrambler!

No emissions in that county. I'll let you know how this goes.

And thanks for the compliment . It is very nice.

That's pretty much how I like my Jeeps. Stock height and standard wheels and tires. And that is a nice one.

Turns out the carb rebuild wasn't quite right. Disassembled and redid that piece and all is doing well. They moved on to tie rod ends and other minor items. I hope to get some photos of the whole Jeep fleet they have there. Neat bunch of old stock JEEPS.

    Thanks again.
