Just added my favorite winch. An 8000# Warn 8274 it's a 1980 vintage. I put a service kit in and new wire rope and a paint job. I like the way I mounted it with the roller fairlead in the middle of the bumper. Sits a little lower. I got the idea from this website. Thanks

I like the low mount - through the bumper fairlead as well! glad you squeeze the low mount in with the saginaw box as well!

The 8274 looks so natural on a Jeep.
    Nice job on the installation.

The nice thing about these winches is the parts interchange with the new ones.

Looks awesome on there. Love your jeep. Good job. Like the low mount too. That's the way to do it imo.

what size cables did you run to the battery?

The cables are the original cables that came with the winch when I purchased it.

Like the way you mounted it as well. Hard to beat an 8274. Its become my favorite winch and I am one that likes the way it looks, the ease of servicing it and the abundant parts that are still around. I can rebuild one now with a service kit in under two hours, not counting paint time of course.
Here is my 47 with the rebuilt 8274, even a little lower. Fairlead is behind flip up plate.

What bracket did you use to do this through the bumper like that? Or did you fabricate it yourself? Thanks Rob

love what you did with it, looks great with that low mount. On a side note, have you seen what one of those costs new?!?!? Way more than I could ever afford.

The winch mount plate came with the winch.

Yes ok thanks for your reply.....

But with it being dropped like that....is it only welded to the bumper itself on the backside and on the front side of the plate?

Could you take some pics of the clearances on both sides and any detail of the work\welding below?
    Thanks
