Maybe you are hundreds of miles from any town or city... however, several times I have bought tires through Tire Rack and had them shipped to my FLTS (friendly local tire shop). Easy peasy - Tire Rack ships UPS to the shop, the shop gives me a call when they come in, and I stop by the shop for installation at my convenience. I asked my tire shop whether I could get a better deal by choosing a brand that they stock locally, and they told me to just buy the tires I like online. My impression is that stocking enough tires to cover most customer's needs requires quite a large capital investment (in the merchandise and warehousing) by the shop, much more than a small local shop can handle. Shipping a specific tire on demand to your shop involves an extra expense that's likely not as cheap as the shipping costs for a popular tire shipped in large quantities to a high-volume big city tire seller (ie my local Pep Boys), but Tire Rack seems to discount the sale price of tires enough to mostly make up for the added shipping. Also note that the MT tires sell for quite a lot more than an equivalent size street tire or even an AT type. Not sure why that is ... something about the cost of production?

This Sumitomo is inexpensive and looks a lot like the H78-15s that came on these Jeeps. And no raised white letters! Sumitomo Encounter AT The OEM tires were much more AT-like than MT-like.

Funny thing is I measured the goodyear wranglers on the jeep and they are supposedly 30x9.5-15's and even not worn down (lots of tread depth) they are smaller than the 235-75r15's I'm looking at.
I currently run the km2s on my 70 chevy 4x and have them white in. The cj will "show off" the white lettering much more than I like, so am thinking of using some forever black to dye the letters that will be mounted in.
Interesting that local shop can supply hook me up for just under 200 per tire mounted balanced and tax and the best tire rack can do is just over 200 per tire and have to add tax and mount and balance so it's a no brainer the local shop is working with me. These the first vehicle tire I've bought from them, although I've been getting equipment and tractor tires there. It pays to shop local.

TireMart is Pit Bull tire. I'm not sure who Mike has molding his tires. Check out the PitBull 15" UTV tires. Someone needs to try them on a Jeep and post up. From what I understand, they have the load rating.

FWIW I had 15" I think stock tires on my 97 TJ
    Goodyear wrangler
I went everywhere on them actually farther than the heavy modified guys went with no lockers etc this was when I lived in Maine lots of snow rocks and river crossings I loved them.
You can get a set of 4 shipped free on eBay for 320$ iirc. Tires direct is the company I think and I know they're here in phx Arizona
The store will match eBay price if your near one if not free ship to ya on eBay
    Hope it helps

I ran the yokohama geolandar at+s in a 16. The price at the time was in the middle so not the most expensive but not the cheapest. I had them in my 47, I liked them because in a 16 they were tall and skinny. They had the look of a bisply without the negatives.

    Just another option

Mine are 16" and the skinniest ones I could find that would fit were 215/85's. They are over 30" tall -- too tall in my opinion. I think they look kind of silly but I spent too much on them to change now.

After being distracted and searching for wheel polishing supplies (had to order on-line) I'm back to report I'm moving forward with 30's. Mainly to keep it as it looks now (wife likes it) and added insurance for steps that will be going on soon.
I plan to completely clean and polish the rims and get some new stubby chrome valve stems.
I want to keep the original surburbanite (H78x15) and am thinking about keeping the Goodyear Wranglers (30X9.50) even though all are old.
I can't figure the date code on the GY's(425, likely 42nd week of 85 or 95), all of them are worn less than 10%, none are checked (crazed) due to garage life, yet I won't trust my life on them. Somebody may want them in the future for a collection or ?.

I have a hard time getting into the idea of buying a LT tire LIGHT TRUCK for a vehicle that weighs less then a Honda Accord. LT tires have stiff sidewalls to allow heavier weights MUCH heavier then a CJ would ever run.

I plan on buying two sets of tires for my Willys the first will be some 235/75R-15's in a AT winter type tread. The second set I'll look at something more aggressive. Like a 9.50-30 those Faulkner tires look interesting. And I can get them according to the wieb site about 6 blocks from home LOL

Nice Jeep Stout, When I was working on a coke battery back in the 60's the electricians had a Jeep like yours with a winch is the box. They were trying to pull wire out of a man hole, the front wheels kept coming up off the ground. They tied it down some how, next thing I knew they had a Hump Back brand new Jeep, bent the frame right in the middle. It was around for years after that. Lol

i had passenger type tires when i first got the 74 they were loose feeling on the road squishy sidewalls. i run an lt235/85/16 10 ply road pressure is 18 lbs rear 20 lbs front wheeling pressure has been as low as 6 psi with no issues.

Mark - I am running load range E. My plan is to run with far less than the standard 80 PSI. I do this on my F350 when I am not towing the boat or camper. I like the heavier sidewall off-road.

WOW I can't imagine what that must ride like. I plan on running the passenger car tires at around 30lbs considering a Willys jeep even mine which has been beefed up a lot only weighs in at about 2500 lbs a 66 Chevelle malibu with a 283 was 3230 lbs curb. And they ran on little 14" tires.

I don't an won't do any hard core rock crawling stuff so I guess the sand and dirt forests and deserts I run in will be just fine with a softer tire I know my arse sure will. Especially since we plan some very long trips

its all about pressure,im sure at 50 lbs they are stiff,at 18 not so much.I have seen a chart somewhere that lists max weight vs max pressure. at 15 psi my 10 ply lt tires each tire still has the ability to hold the whole jeep up. i like the stiffer sidewall it helps with stability on road.

I run lt's on wifes xj cherokee with old man emu 2" lift with zj springs in front to counter bull bar and winch.
Used to run at's and the jeep was all over the place, quieter, and lesser fuel economy. Running same size, higher pressure.
Hope to start polishing rims tomorrow, and then back to tire shop where I have a beef with owner. One of his installers provided a 4" gash on the face of the otherwise only oxidized rim.

They are National Commando 215/85/16. Wheels are stock for a '59, I don't recall the width.
