gentlemen, I am currently awaiting the arrival of an under-seat gas tank for the wife's 62 Willys. what should I put under it, so there isn't metal on metal contact once it is installed?

was thinking a layer of silicone padding, but then thought against that do to any moisture getting trapped.

second thought is two strips of teak wood?

I think I used black rubber bungie cords, with the ends cut off.

I used 3/8" thick strips of UHMW plastic, don't use anything that will trap or hold moisture (like the factory did with their wood strips). The 3/8" gets the neck at exactly the right height for the center of the filler hole.

I picked up a spray can of bed liner. Like the Harbor freight stuff. Scuffed up the paint and gave the underside/ contact surfaces of the tank a couple thin coats.
I then cut a couple strips of an old thin rubber mudflap to sit it on.

When I convert back to gasoline I'll be reinstalling the gas tank I have without seeing what it was mounted on to start with. How many strips did you use and how wide were they?

IIRC three layed front to back, they were 1 or 1-1/2" wide. I also put some foam rubber waether stripping around the holes where the sump drain & fuel ling go through just on general principle.

I've decided I'm going to use this fire hose, cut to length. It's a little over 3" wide, and it'd ribbed so air can flow through it, and moisture won't get trapped.

These are tarp straps as mentioned above.

I used another under the hold down strap.

I used the cut off ends under each bolt of the hold down strap. I also ran a separate ground wire to one of the screws. There is also a return line from the fuel pump.
