Here's mine. Kind of simple, I know. Maybe even a Bubba mod. But it works pretty well. I'd like to clean up and will, when the T18 goes in.

Mikky certainly proved that, didn't he? But that's another topic. Sorry.

Bicycle cable is good for this. The choke cables you get at the parts store have a solid wire core instead of the cable. In my experience, connecting the solid wire to the throttle arm can cause trouble with the throttle sticking and not going back to idle smoothly. Fine stranded cable is better in this respect.

Electric throttle solenoid on my TA470
Bumps idle up to about 1600 rpm.

    How? Automatically or manually activated?

Just a switch on the dash.
The bracket and switch were a factory installation for an a/c kicker on an old Ford (I don't remember the exact model) with a Holley.

Edit: the bracket and solenoid are Ford parts...the switch on the dash is just a generic switch.

That's pretty cool. So you flip the switch, it kicks up and you just run clutch and brakes?

    Bowbender I'm workin' on it!

I assume this is why some put a short length of chain between their cable and the linkage?

Neat. This is a good idea. These solenoids are pretty easy to find in the junk yard. They have two uses - they can bump the idle when the AC is on, or they can prevent run-on by letting the throttle flaps close completely when the ignition is off (that's what Jeep used them for).

With EFI, I'd think you could control the idle air bypass and bump the speed electronically.

I'd presume so. Cruise control servos often use chain too, like the ball chain on a rabbits foot.

Pun = Shifting gears here...What about taking this to another level and going with a hydraulic assisted hand clutch? Squeeze the clutch as your shifting gears...Sounds interesting huh?

Sure, you can do something like this. I think air shift is the popular thing recently, on tuner cars anyway. I guess it just depends on how much stuff you want to add on. I, myself, hate to over-complicate things. I have a hard enough time understanding the basics. Throw in more stuff and I get lost until I can really study it and see it.

I get that...I'm wondering what would feel better/easier...Hand throttle or hand clutch?

I'd find a hand clutch difficult to get used to, I think. Just not natural to me. Not a motorcycle guy.:)

  19. RATTYFLATTY

RATTYFLATTY I think you need a little more throttle

I have installed dash mounted switches along with shifter mounted ones also.

Hand clutch would take a LOT of force, much more than a motorcycle.
