nothing fun is free. I love it that you are willing to spend that kind of coin on an old jalopy. more people should do the same. do you have any pics of a fresh, non leaking Fhead motor? I've heard they exist, but I've never seen one in person.

Don't forget to check and record your engine serial number. :)

Good reminder. I'd better do it now or I'll forget. You know old man syndrome. Now exactly where is it?

Should be at the flat surface, on top, at the very front of the block.

Damn Glenn, you need to move closer this way. I could use a guy like you around here. Help me with my memory.

Honestly, my memory is horrible. I'll remember certain things, somehow, but it seems like most stuff is gone forever.

This one don't leak anymore. Took me three time to figure out the rear seal was bad.

It stopped leaking, does that mean it's time to add more fluids?

JK, it's great when you can get it fixed!

Thanks! That picture was taken a few days before I drove it from FL to IN for the Willys Reunion last year. That engine has about 10k miles on it now and, yes, it leaks a little ;)

Well I got distracted and didn't get it done.........til today. So what does 4J209290 tell me?

It's your serial number, and if there are no letter designations after it then the block left the factory as standard. Mine is 4J258202. The 4J references something like a series I believe.

The 3B page engine info says that 4J indicates original installation in the 3B, so it seems logical to expect it to apply to the CJ5/6 also.

Can the serial number be used to verify the year it was made? Just to see if it fits the year of the body.

The link I posted of course shows 3B's, the conclusion(assumption) could be made that since corresponding number ranges match ours both do fit the body years.
