After reading the other thread about the dash panel layout I got to thinking that maybe some of you would like to have a copy of my 71 owners manual.

    If you go here:

    http://www.hdts.vcn.com/JEEP/junk/71 JEEP OWNERS MANUAL.pdf

you can down load a PDF copy of it. Beware that it is a pretty large file.

The 69 manual is 1/3 that size. I have a scanned copy of it if anyone wants one.

Much gratitude! As a new owner, I have looked for an owner's manual (not a shop manual) that would be applicable for my '68. I want to put myself in the shoes of a new buyer, walking off the showroom floor in 1968, you know. Introduce myself to my "new" vehicle the way it was intended.

Doug, I could also use a '69 manual, to compare/contrast with the '71.

I understand that there were very little if any changes year to year, except maybe new paint colors?

    Thanks

    Great manual! Thanks fellas.

It answers a lot of questions I would probably be painstakingly searching the web or this forum for.
A lot of it is common knowledge but it also tells you how to operate the transfer case and how to properly use 4x4. That's valuable.

It also tells me I should have Back-Up Lights installed on the rear. Boy were they ever wrong. No sign of 'em! o_O

I would have posted it a long time ago but I was always a little worried about the copy right thing. But after doing a little research I decided it was safe, my understanding is copy rights are good for 75 years, but being 47 years old I figured with all the problems Jeep is having now and the different owners, etc. they would not care about some owners manual that old, the gov. says you SHOULD display a copy right symbol and usually when you do not you do not win in court and there is no copy right symbol in the book, just a part number, and back when I was looking at buying my jeep the salesman just gave me a copy of it before I bought it. Plus if you look at all the pages out of the FSM that have been posted and that book is copyrighted, and nothing has ever been said. With all those things I thought I was safe. I noticed the powers to be were on the ball and held up the post for a little bit so I am glad they thought like I did, that it was safe to post it after thinking about it. That also gave me some confidence that it was OK also to post. Thanks guys.

Can't remember about older ones, but in 71 they had back up lights and they were not part of the R-II package.

Thanks for that pic. Seems I spend a lot of time looking for details such as back-up lights that are missing on my Jeep (or I think they're missing) and am unable to find a decent original or restored example that also has them.

Were they all mounted that high?

If you're not looking for original, I used lights in the trailer supply section of a local ranch store. Look at my build pics and you'll see them... They look super close to original.
