Gas Tank Questions

Yes. 3/8" flared tubing with nut bent 90* screwed into the fitting about 3" long then rubber hose to the filter.

 

I would worry about some unexpected siphon action if the return were plumbed to the bottom of the tank. The return normally goes in the top and dumps above the gas level. My inclination would be to duplicate that configuration somehow. I am quite proficient with soldering, and I would prefer to go that route. Epoxy, weld or braze might be some other options.

 

I agree with timgr, no tube extending into the tank. Just let the return fuel splash on top of fuel in the tank.

 

Ok, leaning towards putting it into the sending unit.

 

This is the plastic gas line. Not sure if it's factory. Anyone else see this on theirs

 

Nylon. Seen that on later years, not sure if it was present in 1967. In 1973, it was used for vapor return, not liquid.

Ford use that for EFI, but you need a special tool to install the high-pressure ends.

 

The nylon tubing is factory equipment for supply and return lines on the V6.

 

I assume they just connected to the rubber hoses with a clamp ?

 

That's what I did. You can get weldable bungs from McMaster Carr.

 

Did you actually weld it or solder. I only have a mig welder

 

My 4.3 tbi has both feed and return on bottom, it seems to run well but I never let it get to low.

Somehow I don't think my welding would look that good on such thin sheet metal. More blow thru than anything. What do you all think about a bulkhead fitting ?

 

For a top-mounted return line, it should work fine. The repro tank I bought had the wrong size bung on the bottom for the fuel outlet. I had bought an assortment of weldable bungs and already replaced the one in the bottom. Otherwise I would have used one of those if that's where I had started.
