Well I'm back at it again, finally got my shroud, and installed it yesterday on my 1967 CJ5, checked the operation of the thermostat and all was well.
The radiator was as clean as it could be(no corrosion or dirt of any kind) and pressure checked good. I used new hoses, did a much cleaner job than the previous owner.
I filled the rad. and let it the engine idle until the thermostat started to open (right at 180 deg.), great flow from water pump. I let it idle until the water/antifreeze was just steaming. replaced the rad. cap and let idle for approx. 15 minutes. No leaks, and the temp stayed at 180 deg. for another 10 min. The temp did climb to about 190 deg. in the garage which was at 103 deg. Next a test ride in 103 deg, today.
So it appears the shroud did help to keep the temp stable. As for the fan, I opted to keep the 5 bladed one over the 4 bladed fan just to see how it would cool, so far so good.
I do have a question as to how far into the shroud should the fan blades extend. And has anyone ever used a product called water wetter?(I have never heard of this product before) The people that have used this product stated 10-15 deg. reduction in temp. Comments?

    Thanks, Vince

There is such a thing, I may have a bottle. My friend told me that the Ford Trucks with the International Diesel required it, or they would make a hole in the water pump outlet area. I think I sold the truck and never put it in, I will look for and get back with you.

I've used it and it does help. It works by breaking the surface tension of the coolant allowing more contact with metal therefore transferring more heat. The downside is that it will find a leak quicker!

Viewed from the side, half of the fan blade should project into the shroud and half out. Check for clearance around the fan blade circumference and to radiator of course to allow for engine movement. Fan blade tip to shroud clearance should be no more than 3/4" but again sufficient to allow for engine movement.

What year was that from? And what was the Dia.
The fan I have now seems to have blades that are not distributed evenly around the hub.

The uneven spacing is said to reduce (harmonic) noise and can also allow tools to access components and/or fasteners that would otherwise be obstructed by the fan blades.
