Thanks for the photos. If it’s something that I missed that would be good. I’ll have another look but it seemed really off. That said my plate that may or may not have the notch and isn’t that clean so I could have missed that. But the old pump slid right in.

Good to read that you put the old pump back in and the engine fired right up. Ditto about Walck's Wiring Harness. Well made and comes with all the correct wire terminals. I bought one when I redid my Jeep.

To piggyback on what everyone else has been saying. Fix what needs to be fixed for safety reasons and enjoy driving it. That is one fine example of an original you have with very little modifications.

That is a very nice 55. I am currently in the process of picking up a 1955 CJ5 Serial number 10181

This year was the first year the old girl wouldn’t start. I ended up sending the carb to scout pilot and am looking forward to getting it back. The carb wasn’t necessarily the issue, it’s got a solex and also a pressure regulator on it and it runs ok, but the carb is due for a rebuild and weeps gas. The fuel pump took a crap this year, which motivated me to redo the whole system. I have what I think is the original carb a Carter YF938SD that I sent to Rick(scout pilot) to have rebuilt. I also ordered a cheap vacuum fuel pump to get it running well I source a proper glass bowl vacuum fuel pump. The fuel pump that died wasn’t a glass bowl but appears to be older.

I should be getting my carb from scout pilot soon.

Beautiful 55! It will definitely help me as a reference to restore my 57! I am also getting a lot of support from Joe and his 1955 #181!

Do you mind checking the missing image links in page 2 of this post?
    Thanks

Not sure I’ve got time to rebuild this thread with photos but if you need a picture of something specific I could make that happen.

That’s very much appreciated. Mine is ‘57. I recently open a new topic about the process.

If you don’t mind I would like to see some pictures from the hood and windshield hinges and also mirror bracket.

    thanks a lot
