Hey everyone! I have been working on restoring/fixing up this old '74 CJ5 and I saw these flush LED tail lights while driving down the road one day. Well ever since that day, I've been thinking about tail lights. I did some looking around on the internet checking out auto part stores for possible replacement. Today, I was looking through all kinds of forums and stumbled upon a few threads on this forum about stock tail lights and how the metal piece that came from factory is a difficult piece to find. So I got to thinking about what I had on my jeep and went into the garage to check it out. I just want to see what you guys have to say. Basically, I just want to know are my tail lights stock or not? Sorry for the short story by the ways. I have images attached for your viewing pleasure I hope it helps.

Images coming shortly. It seems my phone takes images greater than 1 mb.

Yep, I would take them too. The left one with the pedestal and plate bracket is what I'm missing. I have a spare right one.

Thanks everybody for the replies! I do believe I'm going to keep it stock. Maybe think about putting in an upgraded bulb to give it some umph!

Good decision. I'm not a fan of the flush look on CJs.

Thought I'd point out - smashing these lights on rocks or other trail obstacles is not difficult. I presume that's why so few of them survive. The later Jeeps mount the lights higher.

There are some repops on eBay that look much the same.

Yeah i have read on a few threads someone smashing theirs. I'm not going to be off roading much if at all here in the desert. When the weather is nice, I'll be using this as a daily driver. I will go on the occasional cruise down county roads and down the canal banks here in the desert but nothing to an extreme, I want to just enjoy exploring as i once did when I was young lad but this time its gonna be with a jeep and not my bike.

would anyone know if there is a generic license plate lens that would fit the OEM taillight.Seems like that clear lens gets damaged often.
I picked up a pair of lights that were in ruff shape and made a good pass. side light. Also got the license plate bracket but not the stand-off cup.
Will keep looking as you never know when one of those will get bumped.nice to have spares.

I have another question but this time it is about the lens for the brake lights. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement brake lens that would fit the stock set up? I have checked a few places online with no luck on my end. However, I did find this ebay auction that had the exact one that I have on the jeep at the moment.

    Reflect-o-lite 410-450 Lens Red model 450 | eBay

Another quick question here. Does anyone know if I could put some type of clear coat on these lens to protect them from UV damage? The sun down here is wicked harsh on plastics. Just to give you an idea how bad it is, I had plastic totes in the garage out of the sunlight and they dried out and were very brittle after a couple of years. Thanks all for the help!

Crown used to sell them. Jeep PN 8122928. If you can't find them elsewhere, try calling the Crown warehouse in Canton MA.

Maybe use a car cover? That's what I do.

Thanks for all the help guys! I'm new to finding parts and the whole jeep restoration project, but I am determined to learn and ask when I cannot find the information! Again I truly appreciate the time and experience you guys share with me.

Is that pedestal connected to the taillight housing and/or the license plate bracket?

There is the plate bracket, then the pedestal, then a gasket next to the body. All separate.
