My New Front Bumper...

I wanted a Tux Park bumper for the front of my Jeep or a reasonable facsimile thereof. I decided to use a '40 Ford bumper that I bought off of eBay for the job. It was too wide so I took 8" out of the center and welded it back together. I welded the stock Ford bumper brackets to the 3" square tube cross bar I installed on plates to enclose the front frame horns. My Jeep is loaded with character from patina. So I wanted something that looked at home. What do you think?

Ps the body tub sits low on the passenger side but the bumper is square to the frame.

 

I was thinking you located an early jeep pickup or wagon front bumper and stuck on there.
Don't know how one of those compares to a Tux Park bumper, though.

I agree with Beach Bum, it looks good. The TUX bumper on my Avatar is damaged from a plow the PO put on it, I turned it upside down and hid the damage with the front plate. It could be fixed, but I have the rear Tux bumper on the front and Bumperetts on the rear. I think there is a Willys pick up with a bumper like a Tux, maybe more bolt holes, but close to a Tux bumper.
I think it is a good idea to tie the frame horns together like you did, the tux bumper has only two bolts in it and does little to stiffen the frame horns.

IIRC it's a Commando bumper that's like the Tux Park.

 

The Tuxedo Park chrome bumpers were used on the Jeepster too IIRC, likely with different attaching hardware. Intermediate Jeeps had the chrome bumpers as a regular option, and I assume they are the same bumpers.

 

i like it. Just need to finish it and rechrome it.

 

Thank you all for the nice feedback. I really like it. There was a chunk of metal welded on there before to mount an old winch that weighed 50-60#. It was grotesque. I like the simple look and the way the bumper curves back towards the tires.

I couldn't imagine not tying the frame horns together as it looked weak without the front bumper.

 

Actually the Tux bumper is different from the front Jeepster Commando bumper, but they are interchangable. The Tux bumper (front and rear are same) has only one face bolt hole that lines up to the end of the front frame rails, whereas the Jeepster bumper has these same face holes, plus a top and bottom hole (3 bolt holes per frame rail).
The wagon/truck/ rear Commando bumper has the same curve and profile as the Tux, but is about 8" wider and has different bolt holes. You can cut approx 4" off each side, and weld up bolt holes/drill new ones, and end up with a Tux bumper to rechrome.
