Hits But Doesn't Run

    1962 f-134 carter carb.
I feel sure this question has never been asked, ;), but I didn't see it in my search.
I'm getting close to the finish line on this project but now other than wiring issues I seem to have developed a starting issue.
Motor turns over and hits every time but will not start (run). When I press the accelerator I can see fuel coming from what I think is the low speed (idle) port but nothing from the high speed port. Motor had been running very well.
Could this be a result of my trying to reconnect the harness or does it sound like a carburetor problem?
As always I appreciate your help and advice.

“99% of all carburetor problems are electrical in nature.”

sounds like up only getting power to coil in starting mode . test with a 12V test light . or a jumper wire from battery to positive side of coil

Should it run with a jumper from the +battery to the +coil ? Can that cause problems elsewhere?
As you can probably tell I'm electrically challenged .
    Thank you!

It will not shut off with the key. And disconnect it when you are done. But it will indicate if the "run" circuit from key-switch to coil may be the fault.

Normally F-head does not have an external ballast resistor for the coil, but a PO may have used one. If so, that may be in the "run" circuit and needs testing.

    Thanks!
    Will give it a try.

Did it. Same results. Hits and runs for about one second.
    ???
    Thanks

Pull coil wire (high tension) and hold near engine and crank. Should continue to spark until you stop cranking. This test should eliminate any problems with coil and points and condenser.

Thanks, Walt. I'll give it a shot.

Might want to revisit this first post and add some detail. Motor had been running very well, so how long has it been since it last ran well? Beginning to sound to me like a fuel issue. Maybe fuel pump trouble, gas tank dirty, fuel filter plugged. You should see a good squirt of fuel when you move the accelerator linkage.

Ran fine two days ago. Glass bowl on fuel pump is full. Small squirt of gas in lower part of carb. (idle port?). Could this be an ethanol issue?
Ethanol did cause accelerator pump damage on my Jeep with the 225.
I'm going to do what Walt suggested and then I guess it is carburetor time.
    Thanks

I did what Walt suggested and got good spark.
Next I removed the carb and took it apart and cleaned it with spray carb cleaner and compressed air. It had some fine grit in the bowl. I drained the fuel tank and refilled with filtered gas. Then I put a fuel filter in line before the fuel pump.
The results are the same. Fires for about a second then dies. Could the voltage regulator be responsible? Is there some wiring issue that could cause this?
    Thanks

Check fuel pump output? (Both static pressure and delivery volume.)

    Points, condenser.

Fuel pump has strong flow at the carburetor. I will try to replace the condenser today.

Be sure the dropping restor is wired in correctly.

I think that was covered in post #3.

Any chance there is moisture inside the distributor cap?

Did it run good after your wiring harness work you mentioned?

I have been thinking about this all day and believe my best plan of action is to go back and make sure my wiring is done correctly.
I could take everybody's time and guess at everything but unless the basic stuff is done correctly I am just taking a shot in the dark.
I think my main problem now is in the ignition switch. Wiring diagrams are a little confusing so I am going to use the one in the FSM. Unfortunately there is not one showing which wire goes to what stud on the switch.
I will ask many more questions when I am comfortable that my wiring is correct.

    Thanks for all your help!!!
