I have LT235/85R16 tires on my '69 CJ5 and have a spare tire but no rim. I cannot determine what rim size I need to match the other 4 tires with 5X5.5 bolt pattern. Looked at numerous sites, but they want you to put in the rim size to determine compatibility. I don't know how wide the rim should be. Any direction/help would be great!

Not exactly sure I'm following your question but, my truck wears the same size tires and uses 16x7 wheels. It's a ford 3/4 ton truck but, the that should not change the fact that we're discussing the same tire size.

Often, when you search a tire size on the manufacture's web site, it will list the recommended rim width for the tire.

Pictures might help. Original 16" wheels? Aftermarkets?

You could also use a tape measure from the outside of wheel to where the mount surface intersects the surface holding the tire. Measure same from inside of wheel to the back of the mount surface (also a good aprox for your backspacing). Add the two and you are close to wheel width?

Yeah, pix or description of your 4 current rims would be helpful. But I run 215-85-16s on 4.5 inch rims. Pretty much anything wider than 4.5 up to 7 or 8 inch would work for a 235-85-16.

The ad I have in the classifieds for a 6x16 Gladiator rim fell way back in the classifieds pages but I still have it.

235/85/16 tires usually specify rims from 6" to 7.5" in width. I plan on running this size tire on a set of 6 X 16 Jeep Gladiator rims I was able to find and refurbish.

Sorry for the confusion - I was looking for what width to use. Looks like I can use a range of width. Since itys just a spare not too critical.

Gunner - will look for your ad.

That size fits real good on the 5" stock wheels.
