67 v6 stock exhaust heat valve

I'm doing the heads and cam on my '67 Dauntless V6. Upon inspection of the exhaust heat valve located on the passenger side manifold, it appears that it needs some attention. There's a big spring wire that doesn't look properly placed and a small spring wire that is loose on one end. Pictures being worth a thousand words, here you go. Any opinion on how to correct?

This is only a partial help--that spring looks to be for its effect on the counterweight. Pictures, I've found, don't show "anchor" points.

My heat riser is inoperable--now acting solely as a spacer.

I'll learn this new earlycj5 site--but until then--I'll do it the hard way--multiple posts!

The above post, with the blue mat, has the word "previous" at the top of the picture--click on "previous" to go to the $225.00 heat riser

Thanks for all the good feedback. I have enough to work with.

Going through the “engine” parts box and came across what I think used to be this part.

looks like the P.O. Plugged some
Holes and the weights and springs are long gone.

Anyone have an idea of a source for this part? Are these typically replaced, or should I try a WTB post in the classifieds?

I thought it might be this:
OER 3887023 1964-78 Small Block Exhaust Manifold Heat Riser Valve

    but no.

A Crown replacement heat riser is available through Jegs, e-bay, Morris and I'm sure others. That's the only source that I found.

That was my plan for today as soon as our power comes back on.

Thanks for this - very informative. I cleaned mine up and will turn it back into a spacer, JB weld and all:
